Monday, September 15th – Energy Regulation in Alberta

Jim Ellis, President & CEO, Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)

Mr. Jim Ellis has been Chief Executive Officer at Alberta Energy Regulator since April 2013. Mr. Ellis was the lead Alberta official on the Canadian energy strategy. His military career included service in Germany and command responsibilities in Bosnia. His final overseas mission was as senior commander for Canada's mission to Afghanistan in 2004-05.

Mr. Ellis will provide a brief overview of his career till date, including the challenges he faces in his position as president and CEO of Alberta Energy Regulator (Formerly ERCB). In his talk Mr.Ellis will also provide information regarding AER, its main objectives and his perception regarding which future regulations may be necessary to improve the province's wellbeing.

Topic: What are the key determinants of wage inflation in the Oil Sands over the last decade?" "Has the global oil market been the culprit?" "Have labour market turnovers (and other market frictions) been important contributors to consistent wage growth?" Which corporate and government strategies may alleviate wage growth stimulants?" What is the potential impact on wage inflation from Keystone XL approval?

This workshop examines the evidence to date and provides both forecasting and insightful corporate and governmental strategies to alleviate wage inflation pressures.
