Step-by-step instructions

Interested students from our partner institutions should first contact the Exchange Program Coordinator at their home university to obtain further information and begin the application process.

After nomination by the home university, exchange students must complete and submit the following ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS:

 Undergraduate Exchange

 MBA (Visiting) Exchange

 MBA Double Degree

 


For an Undergraduate Exchange

  1. University of Alberta Incoming Undergraduate Student Exchange Application Form.
  2. Up-to-date official record of ALL post-secondary work completed and English translation of transcripts if original language is not in English.
  3. List of courses currently being taken (if not shown on official record).
  4. Proof of English language proficiency as specified by exchange agreement. Unless otherwise agreed upon, undergraduate applicants need a minimum TOEFL score of 86 (internet based test) with a score of no less than 21 on each band (or equivalent).
  5. Incoming Exchange Application Checklist (UG level) to be completed and signed by the Liaison Officer in applicant's home university
  6. For on-campus housing, apply at Residence Services.  A deposit of $175 CAD is required. Housing applicants will need their student ID number, CCID (campus computing ID), and password which will be provided soon after the complete exchange application has been received. 

Note: Course registration is completed independently on the online University of Alberta registration website, "Bear Tracks." Again, the ID, CCID and password are required.  For further details, please see the Academic Information section.

 

For an MBA Exchange (visiting)

  1. University of Alberta Application for Visiting Graduate Student.  No application fee is required. See minimum academic requirements below
  2. Manual Registration Form 
  3. Up-to-date official transcripts (in original language) of ALL post-secondary work completed. Both Undergraduate and MBA transcripts must be included (original documents only, CERTIFIED COPIES NOT ACCEPTED)
  4. English translation of the above required official transcripts
  5. TOEFL report  
  6. GMAT report (optional)
  7. Permission to Participate Form with a list of courses requested at the University of Alberta (Please note that only 500-or-600-level courses are offered at the MBA level). Must have ORIGINAL signatures.
  8. Incoming MBA Exchange (Visiting) Application Checklist to be completed and signed by the Liaison Officer in applicant's home university
  9. For on-campus housing, apply at Residence Services.  A deposit of $175 CAD is required. Housing applicants will need their student ID number, CCID (campus computing ID), and password, which will be provided after the application has been submitted.

 

For an MBA Double Degree Exchange

  1. University of Alberta Shared Credential Application Form.  No application fee is required. See minimum academic requirements below.  
  2. Up-to-date official transcripts of ALL post-secondary work completed (including all Undergraduate transcript(s), degree certificate(s) as well as transcripts at graduate level. All documents must be written both in original language <if not English> and in English)
  3. TOEFL report 
  4. GMAT report ORIGINAL ONLY 
  5. Permission to Participate Form with a list of courses requested at the University of Alberta (Please note that only 500-or-600-level courses are offered at the MBA level). Must have ORIGINAL signatures.
  6. Incoming MBA Double Degree Application Check List to be completed and signed by the Liaison Officer in applicant's home university

   NOTE: an MBA degree will not be granted by the University of Alberta until:

  1. the student has met the minimum academic program course requirements outlined in the appendices of the double degree exchange agreement (Double Degree participants should plan to be at the University of Alberta through June of the year following their admission in order to complete all requirements for the program), and
  2. the University of Alberta receives a certified copy of the MBA degree parchment or a letter from the home university attesting that an MBA degree has been awarded to the student by his/her home university.

 


 IMPORTANT:

Please note that all application forms and documents must be completed in full before submission. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Completed application packages must be received prior to application deadlines: APRIL 1 for September and/or January admissions and SEPTEMBER 15 for January admission only. Although there are two deadlines, we highly recommend all incoming applications to be received by APRIL 1.  Please note that application deadlines are under review and subject to change.

Early submission is strongly recommended. Processing of the application documents takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have received an official Letter of Admission from the University of Alberta and a student visa to enter Canada. 

 

Minimum Graduate Academic Requirements from International Institutions

Minimum MBA Admission Requirements set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) are as follows. A full listing can be found on the FGSR website.

Undergraduate Admission English Language Proficiency Requirements:

Minimum TOEFL score for Undergraduate applicants is 86 (internet based test) with a score of no less than 21 on each band or equivalent. In addition to the TOEFL iBT, other ways of satisfying the English Language Proficiency Requirement include:

  • Paper-based TOEFL of at least 580 with a TWE of 4.0 or better
  • A score of at least 85 on the MELAB (Michigan English Assessment Battery)
  • A score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with no band less than 5.0
  • A score of at least 70 on the CAEL (the Canadian Academic English Language assessment exam)
  • A score of at least 59 on the PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic)

As professional program that is part of a quota Faculty, the Alberta School of Business requires that English Language Proficiency be met. Unless specifically agreed upon, no exceptions will be made. Graduate Admission English Language Proficiency Requirements

The Alberta School of Business preferred TOEFL (iBT) score is 100 for MBA applicants. The official English Language Proficiency requirements for graduate students at the University of Alberta may be found on the Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research website.

 

MBA Program's standard admission requirement for the GMAT is 550.
